We are seeking a Lead Character Artist for our client, a renowned game development company based in Prague and Brno, celebrated for their iconic first-person shooters. This role aims to strengthen their art department and support their development team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Character Art Production: Oversee the creation of character art, collaborating with both internal and external teams.
- Visual Style and Direction: Work with other leads to establish and maintain the visual style and direction for character art.
- Create Realistic Character Art: Produce highly realistic character art that aligns with the project's needs.
- Mentorship and Feedback: Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to the character art team, supporting their professional growth.
- Production Planning: Collaborate with the Lead Artist and other leads to create and execute a production plan, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to standards.
- Team Motivation: Share the project's vision with the team to keep them motivated and aligned with the project's goals.
- Reporting: Report progress and issues to the Creative Director and Lead Artist.
- Task Management: Define tasks and priorities, assign them to artists, and track their progress.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and issues, and actively work to resolve them.
- Pipeline and Workflow Definition: Establish and maintain character art pipelines and workflows, keeping them current with technological advancements.
- Documentation: Write and maintain necessary documentation.
- Team Building: Participate in recruiting and building the character art team.
- Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with industry-leading technologies and trends.
Education/Skills:
- Experience: Proven experience as a Character Artist.
- Leadership: Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Time Management: Strong time management, organizational, and planning skills.
- Game Development Knowledge: Understanding of the game development cycle and processes.
- Communication: Excellent written and spoken English.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with other departments.
- Quality Focus: Sharp eye for quality, precision, consistency, and attention to detail.
- Problem Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with a goal-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated approach.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of the software required for the full character art pipeline.
- Workflow Fluency: Fluent in modern character art workflows.
- Anatomy and Art Principles: Deep understanding of human anatomy, archetypes, and a sense of proportions, as well as form, color, and light.
- Project Management Tools: Knowledge of Jira or similar project management tools.
- Industry Trends: Very good knowledge of current developments and trends in the game development industry.
