The highest wage increase in the technology sector – the engineering industry leads the way

The engineering sector has recorded the highest increase in average salaries for specialists and managers, positioning itself at the top among other sectors of the economy. The growing importance of creating new products and exploring new markets is driving demand for specialists in this field.

Engineering in 1st place - the highest salary increase among other sectors

A clear trend of rising wages, which began last year, is particularly evident in the area of Research & Development (R&D), where experts are in high demand, and their skills are highly valued.

During the pandemic, professionals involved in Health and Safety (H&S) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) redefined their knowledge and skills, and organizations came to understand the wide range of responsibilities these departments handle. For most of the time, both candidates and companies did not consider changes, so their salaries did not increase faster than inflation, despite the significant development of their competencies and skills, commented Roman Zabłocki, Business Unit Director, Antal Engineering & Operations.

Investments in engineers: high wages for high skills

In today's dynamic business environment, managers with strong leadership skills, particularly those capable of effectively managing change, are in high demand. The need for such managers arises from several factors, including technological transformations, such as artificial intelligence, and cultural and social shifts.

In 2020-2021, mid-level managers overseeing teams earned salaries ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 PLN gross per month. Today, this has risen to 20,000-25,000 PLN. Health and Safety managers, who previously earned 17,000-18,000 PLN gross monthly, can now expect salaries as high as 20,000 PLN. Average salaries for engineers with several years of experience have also increased—from the previous range of 8,000-9,000 PLN to 12,000-13,000 PLN.

New technologies, automation, and digitalization – catalysts for wage changes

The increasing pace of technological, economic, and social changes requires companies to be flexible and adaptable, with competent leaders being crucial to their success. Companies are seeking managers who can quickly respond to changes, make decisions in uncertain conditions, and guide organizations through crises.

The highest demand for change management managers in Poland is seen in major cities like Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Trójmiasto, Poznań, and Katowice. These regions are characterized by dynamic growth in the technology, financial, and shared services sectors, which heightens the need for effective change management.

Employers are willing to pay more for managers capable of effectively leading organizational transformations. Salaries in this group are increasing, particularly in regions with a rapidly developing technology sector and in companies investing in modern technologies and sustainable development, comments Agnieszka Grzegorczyk, Team Manager at Antal Engineering & Operations.

Although the volume of hires is smaller, the qualification requirements are higher. The engineering sector is becoming more competitive, and attractive salaries are one of the key factors in attracting top specialists and managers in the market, concludes Roman Zabłocki, Business Unit Director at Antal Engineering & Operations.
