WANTED: Business Inteligence
As the IT market increasingly gathers momentum in 2010 it is clear that some areas are picking up more than others. Business Intelligence (BI) is one of these areas that has recently seen great growth. Even during the downturn, the BI market managed to perform relatively well in comparison to other technologies, causing many to question whether it was almost ‘recession proof’.
To an extent, a big reason for the success of BI in recent times is due to its capability to be used as a tool to cut costs, boost revenue, and consolidate operations. The ability to improve efficiency and save money through BI and data analytics is more important to a firm during a recession than in good times. During the slump this became evident to many companies who have now realised that these tools are necessary in order to prepare to maximise returns during the next downturn. Even many companies that still have drastically reduced budgets have allowed for spending on BI to continue. Afterall, in good times and in bad, companies need visibility into their businesses.
At the moment the most popular sectors for BI in the Polish market include telecommunications, banking, and finance. Many large organisations in these sectors are already investing large amounts of money in BI, with plans to increase their budget in the future. The pharmaceutical industry is also expected to be a booming sector for BI investment, with companies striving to improve technical areas such as improving research and clinical performance, resource management, sales force tracking and regulator compliance reporting. A key priority for most pharmaceutical companies is the reduction of knowledge process service costs. However, despite the potential in this sector, BI deployment is often more challenging due to the data intensive nature of the industry. Various other challenges to the BI adoption process in the pharmaceutical industry include the frequent changes in legislation, and data availability at different time periods.
With the constant growth of the Polish BI market, the recruitment of skilled professionals is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Good resources are in high demand and have the luxury of having many job options to choose from without even having to actively seek work. Consulting companies are increasingly in a situation where they win work and are unable to provide consultants or developers to their client, causing them to lose out to the competition. Due to this resource constraint, it is beneficial to partner with a skilled recruitment consultant who has an extensive reach into the BI market and has a strong network to utilise whenever candidates are needed.
In order to capitalise on the increasing demand for BI/DW solutions, it is also important for a consulting company to have a strong sales team. The recruitment of outstanding sales professionals is also a difficult task and requires networking amongst candidates who are only passively looking for work. For this reason it is necessary to have contact with recruitment consultant who has relationships with strong people in the market.
